We Feed the Land, The Land Feeds Us

Long before olive groves and wheat fields had borders, they belonged to those who tended them with care.

The ancient saying " الارض قدّ ما بتعطيها بتعطيك " (Al-ard qadd ma bta‘ṭīha bta‘ṭīk—"however much you give to the land, it gives back") reminds us that the land is not something we own, but a sacred, living entity—one we must tend to, nurture, and respect.

From the terraced olive groves of Palestine to the date palms of the Gulf, our ancestors understood that the way we treat the earth shapes the way it sustains us.

How do we honour the land that feeds us? What traditions have been passed down in your family to care for the earth?
