Pontus Fredriksson Triumphs at 2025 Men's Club Championship on Majlis & Faldo Courses
Tuesday 25th February 2025; Dubai, United Arab Emirates: On Saturday 22nd February Emirates Golf Club hosted the 2025 Men’s Club Championship in association with DEXNET played over both the Majlis and Faldo Courses. 68 golfers competed in a Stroke Play format.
Pontus Fredriksson claimed the 2025 Emirates Men’s Club Championship with scores of (70) and (72), finishing at (-2) for the tournament. He started round one on the Majlis course with a bogey on Hole 2 but quickly bounced back with birdies on Holes 3, 5, and 10. After a (+2) on the front nine of round two, he made a strong comeback, birdieing holes 10, 11, and 13 to secure a three-shot victory.
Raghav Malik finished as the runner-up in the 2025 championship with rounds of (75) and (70), ending the tournament at (+1). He began round one with consecutive birdies on Holes 3 and 4 but dropped shots with bogeys on Holes 5 and 6. Despite the setback, he steadied his play with birdies on Holes 10 and 17. In Round two, Raghav Malik played the front nine in level par before turning it around on the back nine. He birdied both Hole 10 and Hole 13, finishing with a solid (-2) on the back nine.
Sanjay Dhandsa finished in third place with scores of (72) and (74), ending the tournament at (+2). In round one, his first birdie came on Hole 3, followed by a bogey on Hole 5. However, he quickly recovered, making a birdie on the toughest hole on the Majlis Course. Sanjay Dhandsa continued his strong play in round one, making back-to-back birdies on Holes 12 and 13. In round two, he started with 10 consecutive pars before a bogey on Hole 11. He then finished the round with a birdie on Hole 16, maintaining his position and securing third place with a (+2) total.
James Yeomans finished in fourth place with rounds of (78) and (68), ending the tournament at (+3). His round one started off poorly with a bogey on Hole 2 and a double bogey on Hole 4. However, he quickly turned things around with a hole-out eagle on the iconic 8th hole of the Majlis. In round two, James played the best golf of the day, posting a (-3) on the Faldo Course. His impressive round included five gross birdies, two of which came in the final three holes.
James Jackson finished in fifth place with rounds of (76) and (72), totalling (+4) for the tournament. He started round one with a bogey on his first hole but quickly bounced back with a birdie on Hole 2. After a double bogey on the par-5, 10th hole, James regained his rhythm with birdies on holes 11 and 14. In round two, James played a strong back nine, making three birdies on holes 12, 15, and the challenging par-3 17th to finish with a solid round.
Division A
Priyam Godiwala won the A Division with rounds of (68) and (71), finishing at a total of (-5) net. In round one, he went on a remarkable run in the middle of his back nine, making net eagles on Holes 12 and 14, followed by a gross birdie on Hole 18. Round two began with a slow start as Priyam bogeyed Hole 2, but he quickly bounced back, making a gross birdie on the difficult par-5, 5th hole, to regain momentum and secure his victory.
Rakesh Shah finished as the runner-up in Division A with rounds of (74) and (69), ending with a (-1) net total. He started round one with a gross birdie on Hole 2 but followed it with back-to-back bogeys on Holes 3 and 4. He bounced back with a net birdie on Hole 8, finishing the front nine strong. In round two, Rakesh, a big fan of the Faldo Course’s front nine, made net birdies on Holes 4, 6, and 7, helping him secure second place.
Division B
Deepak Nicholas claimed the top spot in Division B with rounds of (69) and (71), finishing with a total of (-4). He played an exceptional back nine in round one, making a net eagle on Hole 14, followed by net birdies on Holes 16 and 18. Building on that momentum, Deepak continued his strong play into round two on the Faldo Course, making net birdies on Holes 4, 6, and the tough 7th hole to take victory.
Just one stroke behind at (-3) with rounds of (69) and (72), Andrea Cappalini finished in second place. A fan of the front nine on the Majlis, Andrea started strong with a net birdie on Hole 1, followed by a net birdie on Hole 4 and a net eagle on Hole 5. Round two started slowly for Andrea, but he found his rhythm on the back nine of the Faldo Course, making four net birdies to finish strong and secure his runner-up spot.
Best Gross: Round One
Graham Pascal posted the best gross round one with a (75), (+3). He got off to a great start, playing the first five holes in (-1), but made bogeys on holes 6 and 7. Despite the setback, Graham bounced back with a gross birdie on Hole 14, finishing the round with a strong performance.
Best Net: Round One
Anil Shivanna claimed the best net round one with a (69), (-3). He had an impressive back nine on the Majlis Course, starting with a net birdie on Hole 12, followed by a gross birdie on Hole 13 and another net birdie on Hole 14, showcasing his strong finish to the round.
Best Gross: Round Two
Vedant Pal posted the best gross score in round two with a (76), (BB9). He delivered an excellent back nine on the Faldo Course, carding a (-1), which included three gross birdies.
Best Net: Round Two
Edouard Meyer claimed the best net score in Round two with a (-2), net (70). He got off to an impressive start on the front nine, making a net eagle on Hole 3, followed by a net birdie on Hole 4 and another net eagle on Hole 5. His strong form continued the back nine, where he made four consecutive net birdies, showcasing a strong performance throughout the round.
At the prize presentation, Emirates Golf Club’s Vice-Captain Scott Campbell extended gratitude to the sponsors, DEXNET, for elevating the 2025 Men’s Club Championship. Nico Visser, the Director of Golf, thanked all the participants for playing and made a special mention of the change in format, expressing eagerness to receive everyone’s feedback. A special note of appreciation was also given to Matt Perry and the Golf Course Maintenance team for their swift work in turning around the Faldo Course.
